Where would you like to begin? Tourist attractions in Alberta illustrates some of our province's greatness at its best. Edmonton and surrounding areas indeed support this notion, as it offers tons of choices to experience enjoyable places and activities, for families, for couples, for singles, for people of every age and interest including shopping, nightlife, sports and recreation. Edmonton is also home to the World’s largest shopping and entertainment centre – West Edmonton Mall. The city is famous for its depth of arts and culture. For example, see the overview of Museums, Galleries and Attractions on this page.

An Array of Galleries, Museums and Attractions

With more than 60 galleries and public exhibits, Edmonton offers too much art for most visitors to appreciate in one trip. You need to decide what you want to see most, and go there first. Likewise, select carefully from Edmonton’s wealth of museums.

A big favourite is Art Gallery of Alberta, with its excellent depth of international and provincial collections.

You get a great view of Edmonton’s work-of-art City Hall from Sir Winston Churchill Square, at the heart of the Downtown Arts District. Please come in for a look at the fine collection of artworks displayed.

There are also many small unique galleries such as the Bearclaw Gallery which features fascinating displays of First Nations arts and crafts, including Inuit soapstone sculptures.

You can contemplate contemporary and experimental works in the artist-run Latitude 53.

Be sure to allow yourself enough time to make this a leisurely experience. Just west of downtown, around 124th St., the 12-block Gallery Walk leads you to a great variety of Canadian art. Learn more about the Gallery Walk through the stories of people who've experienced it.

TELUS World of Science – Edmonton. With five themed interactive galleries, there’s so much to see, hear, touch, taste and do! It’s family fun for all ages. Discoveryland is an interactive gallery designed for children 2 - 8 years of age.

History is for all ages at the Royal Alberta Museum with exhibits and activities to interest every age group. Permanent galleries depict the natural and human history of Alberta. Live in Past Era’s at Fort Edmonton Park, Canada's largest living history museum. You can experience life in four historical periods. Be part of the fur trade. Take a ride on a steam train. Bake bread the old way.

The days of the dinosaurs roar to life again in Jurassic Forest, a 40-acre prehistoric preserve, just 15 minutes from Edmonton and 250 million years from the present.

Check out Alberta’s oldest building - Father Albert Lacombe and his Métis helpers originally constructed this humble chapel in 1861. Historical interpreters take you back to that time — in French or English.

Experience Alberta's History with an Annual Pass. Embark on a Great Alberta holiday at 18 of Alberta's provincial historic sites, interpretive centres and museums. You'll find dinosaurs, fur trade posts, vintage cars, carriages, tractors, bucketwheel excavators, buffalo, tipis and especially - the people.
