Make Something Edmonton (MSE) partnered with City of Edmonton’s CITYlab team and EEDC colleagues to organize a day of community-led urban interventions as part of the global movement, 100in1Day. Individuals, groups and organizations across the Edmonton region staged 131 temporary placemaking projects on June 4, 2016.
Projects ranged from community barbeques, to urban beekeeping demonstrations, mural painting, movie filming, art installations and more. New relationships with key partner and audience groups, including Community Leagues, schools and businesses were formed, exposing more citizens to MSE’s mission to showcase and support the people whose combined efforts are shaping this city.
Logistically, MSE team worked with the City of Edmonton to reduce red tape for project organizers and help them get permits and permissions for their activations. Online, the MSE website saw an influx of profiles and projects created, and MSE reached over 300,000 Twitter accounts on the event day.
